In a Cat's Eyes, All Things Belong to Cats

By Sheila Haynes Rauen

When I heard about this challenge from a fellow quilt guild member I was inspired to take advantage of this opportunity. Her enthusiasm was contagious and it sounded like such a fun idea. Entering such a challenge is a great way to jumpstart your creativity and to help you to focus on a goal.

Since cats are among my favorite subjects, I knew I wanted to include at least one in my quilt. I've had the central idea of the cat with "armloads of mice" in my sketchbook for a long time. After looking through several books of quotes and inspirational words, I found an old English proverb that fit my design perfectly. The fish bowl and the birdcage then popped into my head to complete the concept of "all things." Are the bird, fish and mice in any danger of becoming dinner, or are they all living peacefully? I like to keep the viewer guessing, but the fact that I am a vegetarian will give you a clue!
