Character is Like Embroidery

Character: A person portrayed in a drama, novel, etc.

I found the bit of wisdom in this saying appealing at the outset. I do most of my work by hand, and find the process of building layers of stitching to be very enjoyable, and certainly saw the appropriateness of comparing that to the building of a strong personality. But then I thought about my days in the theatre - and how developing a role on stage was also a process that required careful work.

I chose images that followed the theme of "character", and enjoyed the interplay between the two meanings of the word as I worked on the piece.
