I have used this proverb over the years to express my belief that something is not likely to take place... "Honestly, Mom, I'll get my room cleaned this weekend" says my son. "Sure," I reply, "That'll happen when pigs fly!"
Rather than depict my flying pig as an angel with wings, I decided to take inspiration from my life long love of cartoon animation and attempt to draw a cartoon in fabric. Porky Pig kindly modeled for me! The bi-plane is a tribute to Snoopy and his many battles with the Red Baron. Getting this challenge off the ground has also been a "flying pig experience." When I first had the idea for it (back in 1995) I thought, yeah, it would happen when pigs flew - as in never. However, this particular pig is soaring, thanks to the help and encouragement of many, many dear friends and the incredible trust and talents of the artists who decided to give this challenge a try. Up, up and away! |
