Lorna Morck

My quilt art is an expression of lifelong, deep-seated creative desires. It satisfies a need to work with my hands, to build with texture and depth, to fill my world with color. I thrive on the lack of boundaries in this art form, the limitless variety of color, texture, pattern, and technique. My goal is fourfold: to produce art that stretches my ability; to satisfy my own self-critic; to open doors for surprising new creative adventures; and to touch the viewer in some special way.

I am continually inspired by the world around me. I record the first sparks of a new project in my studio journal and gradually build more notes over time as the vision percolates in the back of my mind. Once I begin a new project, I stay open for the frequent changes in direction as the piece takes on a life of its own. I enjoy letting loose for the spontaneous ride that follows.

Currently I am tightening my focus as I work with a number of different series. I continue to explore line, shape, and color as I refine my techniques. I have exposed myself to many teachers in the past decade; now, I believe, is the right time to develop my own unique visual vocabulary.
