Candace Tucker

My degree from Kendall College of Art and Design, Grand Rapids, Michigan, is in Interior Design and I have been around seamstresses and fabric all my life. After retiring from a 30 year career in retail, I began learning about fiber art through experimenting on my own using the materials at hand. This meant using silks, corduroy, cottons and upholstery all together. Then I took some classes from some wonderful quilt instructors and was told: (1) stick to 100% cotton; (2) points have to be pointy; and (3) seams were all a perfect 1/4 inch. Well, I just could not conform, so back to the "art quilt" and back to my love of all textiles and fabrics, including my own handmade papers. I stitched on anything that would go under the presser foot of my machine.

Presently I enjoy dyeing fabrics and experimenting in all methods of stitching and stitchery. I have also begun some limited teaching of my unique methods. I am interested in the history of women and textile art in general, as well as the future of art and quilts.
