I really think I took up quilting because I'm rather practical. I've done lots of different crafts in the past but quilting satisfies not only my artistic cravings but also the practical side of me that needs to make things of use. I started about twelve years ago, when my children were young and the first quilts I made were for them. Ryan is now 15 and Eryn is 13 and they both still use those first quilts, along with all the other quilts I've made for them since. Like my children, my husband of 20 years, has his own collection of quilts specially made for him. I think that his constant support and creative assistance stems from the fact that he likes the idea that he always knows where to find me, in front of my sewing machine.
My favorite quilts are scrap quilts, the more fabric the better. I like traditional designs but always seem to add a contemporary flair to my quilts. Occasionally I teach classes when I've found a fun technique, but I'd rather just sew for family, friends and loved ones. What better hobby could you ask for? |
