A self taught artist, I was encouraged in the arts from childhood by a mother who painted both oils and watercolors. I loved making dolls clothing and toys with scraps of her leftover fabric. I also loved to cook as a very young child. I still have my Easy Bake Oven!
I studied both textiles and foods in college but decided that food was a more employable field, and majored in nutrition. I eventually went to culinary school and have been a chef for over 20 years. The art of quilting is so similar to cooking, very tactile, visually stimulating and personal. When you cook for someone you share yourself, the same with quilting. I have been quilting for about 6 years. I came to quilting after many years of buying quilts in auctions and estate sales. I finally decided I might try making one. I was immediately hooked. I wasn't sure where I was going with my quilts until a friend suggested an Ellen Anne Eddy workshop and I found the direction, the artistic freedom I didn't even know I was looking for. I love using the fabric to tell a story, paint a picture, and be expressive in its self. I love contemporary quilts and that is why I loved this challenge.
