I am a quilter and artist who works as a lawyer to pay the bills and buy fabric. I have always done fiber handwork but, I did not do any machine sewing or even own a machine until 6 years ago when I began quilting and it quickly took over my life.
I am drawn to challenges as I enjoy working to deadlines and pushing myself to "rise to the challenge." A high percentage of the quilts I have completed have been made for local, regional and national challenges. My quilt "Quilting Sisters-Stitched Together with Love" was juried into the 2003 Hoffman Fabric Challenge and has toured quilt shows around the country for a year. A highlight was the special exhibit showing at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas in 2003. My favorite technique is hand needleturn applique but I enjoy a variety of techniques, fabrics and genres. One day I'm hand quilting my large homespun plaid folk art quilt and the next I'm machine quilting a miniature bright abstract art wallhanging. I'm active in a number of traditional and art quilt guilds. I'm on a quest to learn every technique so that I have lots of options when I am recreating my dreams in fabric. I am also teaching my own techniques and patterns at local and regional guilds. Visit Sandra's website to see more of her work, http://www.moabhappenings.com/Archives/artist0302Starley.htm
