What Did the Little Earthquake Say to the Big Earthquake?

By Cynthia Paugh St. Charles

"It's not my fault!"

This representation of the geologic cross section of the Sevier Fault was inspired by a trip through the beautiful canyon parks in Utah and Arizona. Sevier Fault is a gigantic break in the rock layers located between Bryce Canyon National Park and Cedar Breaks National Monument. 350 million years of earth history can be seen in the exposed rock formations. The layers represent different eras: Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Tertiary, Cenozoic, and Mesozoic. Fossilized sea creatures, dinosaur bones, limestone, sandstone, dolomite, shale, granite, sandstone, and conglomerate rock layers create a magnificent visual symphony of color and texture now exposed by uplifts and erosion.
