What is the Last Thing You Take Off Before Getting into Bed?

By Pam Jenner

When I was young I loved to read a pop-up book of riddles. I donāt remember any of the other riddles but this one. The book had a person on the bed and their feet on the ground. When you pull on the tab the feet would move up. "What is the last thing you take off before getting into bed?" Your feet!

The original picture of the feet is of my pastorās son Nathan. He still has the small toddlerās feet that are cubby and have not yet grown longer. He is all boy, so he has to have a band-aid for his booboos even though Nathan did not have any. The fabrics I decided to use are primary colors for little children, with the quilt pattern of Pathways, signifying the pathways our feet take us on. The quiltās bottom portion is fully lined and three dimensional.

This piece was a stretch for me in using my hand painted fabric for the legs and feet plus making them 3-D; it was challenging to make the feet more like a doll and find a way to attach them without taking away from the whole piece.
